Having graduated in engineering I began my career in manufacturing in 1989. I very quickly realised that I was fascinated to understand how people behaved in relation to change and the relationship between this and the leadership behaviour within the organisation.
After qualifying as a chartered engineer I went on to complete an MPhil in quality and human resource management, which provided the basis for me to become CIPD qualified. Having worked in quality management consultancy I progressed into continuous improvement roles within Mitsubishi Corporation and Lennox Industries.
A five year period spent at Carlsberg provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about engagement and talent development in an international setting. A relatively short but incredibly valuable period at Christian Salvesen/Norbert Dentressangle developed my business turnaround and change management skills and then I moved into the fresh produce sector.
Having recently completed eight years at Produce World as group HR director I am now starting a new journey as organisational development director with Total Produce plc. As I look back over my career so far, the themes that run right the way through are change, leadership, talent, engagement and commerciality in fast moving organisations.
